Introduction

Restaking introduced by EigenLayer enables users to restake ETH to secure other networks for extra fees. However, this comes with the issue of illiquidity for the restaked ETH, resulting in a significant amount of value being tied up.

To address this issue, several protocols have emerged, offering receipt tokens called Liquid Restaking Tokens (LRTs). These LRTs function similarly to those provided by Lido and Rocket Pool, providing liquidity to users while their ETH remains locked in EigenLayer.

It is clearly stated in Base’s Twitter that they have no plans to issue a new network token. That doesn’t mean they won’t ever launch a token, but I would regard the airdrop chances as relatively low.

Liquid staking derivatives (LSDs) like $stETH, $rETH have exploded in usage after the Shapella upgrade. This has given birth to a new DeFi trend, LSDFi, which uses the liquidity of LSD tokens to achieve higher yields.
